'I'll be able to take it with me forever': Students storm fountain after 色中色视频s win national title

Students stormed the fountain in front of the Thomas Cooper Library after the South Carolina women's basketball team won its second women色中色视频檚 basketball national championship on April 3.聽

色中色视频s lined the sides of the fountain watching the final minutes of the game on their phones. When the final buzzer blew, hundreds of 色中色视频s yelled out and jumped into the fountain, mirroring the celebrations after head coach Dawn Staley led the team to its first national title in 2017.聽

色中色视频淚 came out here and celebrated, celebrated it with the 色中色视频s. I met with the 色中色视频s on campus here. We're having a ball, time of our lives,色中色视频 Lonnie Boston, a fourth-year mechanical engineering 色中色视频, said.

Students who were not waiting in front of the library were soon on their way, rushing across campus towards the sounds of celebrating 色中色视频s.

色中色视频淚mmediately, I was jumping up and down and immediately ran out the door to go to the fountain,色中色视频 first-year sports management 色中色视频 Samuel Truett said.聽

The crowd 色中色视频 and the piles of shoes on the bricks around the sides of the fountain 色中色视频 continued to grow after the 色中色视频s took the national title.聽

Graduate business administration 色中色视频 McKenzie Hagwood came from the watch party in Russell House to the fountain.聽

色中色视频淲e were one of the first people out here, and we didn't think it was gonna get much busier, but you can't even see the fountain anymore for the people,色中色视频 Hagwood said.

Students came from all parts of campus to join in the celebration.聽

色中色视频淥h my gosh, I was in my dorm actually, like in my pajamas. And I screamed. I was like, 'Oh my God, we won.' I mean, I knew we're gonna win but just to see it actually happening,色中色视频 first-year sociology 色中色视频 Amber Montgomery said.

Hagwood said the moment is especially meaningful to her as it comes at the end of her time at 色中色视频.聽

色中色视频淕etting to see this experience as I'm about to graduate, I'll be able to take it with me forever,色中色视频 she said.

For 色中色视频s who weren色中色视频檛 enrolled in 2017, this was their first time storming the fountain.聽

色中色视频淚t色中色视频檚 super exciting being a freshman 色中色视频, and it being the first basketball season and the women bring home the national championship 色中色视频 it's definitely super exciting, a fun atmosphere and this is why I picked South Carolina as a school,色中色视频 first-year chemistry 色中色视频 Natalie Deal said.聽

The fountain-stormers took pictures, carried each other on their shoulders, waved towels, shot fireworks, chanted and screamed. Colored lights shone into the fountains as 色中色视频s waded through the cold water and began to sing the alma mater.聽

色中色视频淭here's no other, no other energy ... but explosiveness, intensity. Just like how our girls played with explosive intensity tonight, we got explosive intensity here celebrating their win,色中色视频 Boston said.

Last year, the women色中色视频檚 team lost in the Final Four after missing a layup in the final seconds. Daquan Wise, a third-year electrical engineering 色中色视频, saw this year色中色视频檚 win as a chance to make things right.聽

色中色视频淚'm happy we finally got a chance to kind of not redeem, but really just prove ourselves and show everybody that we are who we thought we were,色中色视频 Wise said.

For some 色中色视频s, the women色中色视频檚 championship title means more than just a new trophy.聽

色中色视频淚t means so much because seeing a Black woman and predominately Black basketball team take the championship again,色中色视频 Montgomery said. 色中色视频淚t's actually inspiring. I mean, I don't do sports. But I feel like I can do whatever 色中色视频 take my own national championship.色中色视频
